Choose to become a mentor at any one of our eight local Berkeley elementary schools.

Berkeley Arts Magnet

2015 Virginia St, Berkeley, CA 94709

(510) 644 - 6225

"Berkeley Arts Magnet is a great school for mentors looking for a combination of work and play. Sage focuses on BAM’s after school program, where mentors spend their time both helping students finish their homework and playing with them outside. Don’t let the name fool you - no arts experience is necessary! That being said, the arts curriculum falls relatively on the wayside during school hours, so we’re always excited to have mentors who think they can use their time cultivating the arts with their mentees in some way! With a fun and helpful liaison and great kids, BAM is definitely worth considering for anyone interested in staying in the Berkeley area but looking to be a little more adventurous."

Jefferson Elementary

1400 Ada St, Berkeley, CA 94702

(510) 644 - 6298

"Jefferson has great students and an awesome staff! One unique thing about Jefferson is that the teachers are very laid back. They often encourage mentors to call them by their first names and mentors tend to develop a relationship with their teacher as well as their mentees. Additionally, at Jefferson you have the opportunity to work with the whole class instead of just one student, which is really fun!"

Emerson Elementary

2800 Forest Ave, Berkeley, CA 94705

(510) 644 - 6890

"Emerson is a great school to mentor at! Mentors get the opportunity to play fun games outside with their mentee and to help them develop and improve their math and reading skills in the classroom. Unique to Emerson are the homework center hours, which take place Monday through Thursday from 3-4pm. During this time you can work with your mentee and his/her class on reading and math, two critical subjects. The kids absolutely love mentors and so do the teachers, who will happily help you with anything you need. At Emerson you will get the opportunity to develop a long-lasting bond with your mentee!"
